Long Way Home
David Casey
I took the long way home to see the stars
Drove the winding mountain road while you slept
I slowed the car
Stillness stole your subconscious creation
Looking south we guessed at the Summer constellations
Whispering we waited for the moon to rise
Adjusting to the darkness we couldn't trust our eyes
Reverence filled our hearts with contemplation
Shoulder to shoulder, silence filled our conversation
When we awoke the stars were fading in the east
Morning had found us, two prisoners released
Keepers of celestial revelation
Stars turn slowly, somehow that's a consolation
